Clinical Strategist. Whole-Person Advocate.| Enneagram 3

Sequoia is a clinical expert and dedicated social worker who leads the counseling program at UrbanPromise. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Johnson C. Smith University and a Master of Social Work from The University of Georgia. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and current JCSU Professor, she brings a wealth of knowledge in trauma-informed care and neurodivergence to her work with students. Sequoia is passionate about providing long-term, restorative support that ensures every student’s emotional growth matches their academic success.

A Los Angeles native and proud HBCU graduate, Sequoia is currently embracing family life with her toddler daughter and husband. She is committed to mentoring the next generation of social workers, serving as both a professor and a licensure supervisor. When she isn’t at UrbanPromise, she loves to play with her daughter, shop, or read a great book.

Quick Stats:

  • Hometown: Los Angeles, CA

  • Passion Points: Educating new clinicians, healing for herself and others

  • Ask her about: Life as a professor, her family, or mental health resources.

  • Superpower: Advocating for those who often go "unseen."

I love that this is long-term work — getting to walk alongside students over a 20-year journey. In my field, I don’t always get to see the long-term growth, so I value being part of a team that supports the whole person through counseling, academics, leadership, and future planning.
