Streetleader Program

When given the opportunity to lead, we believe students thrive, experience growth, gain confidence, and learn more about themselves - and this student leadership is the cornerstone of our StreetLeader program.

Unique to the UrbanPromise model, the StreetLeader Program employs high school students as counselors, tutors, and mentors for the children who attend our AfterSchool Programs and Summer Camps. Our StreetLeaders live in the same neighborhoods as the campers they serve.

UrbanPromise Charlotte provides StreetLeaders with extensive job training, tutoring (academic standing is directly tied to the number of days a StreetLeader may participate in the program), college preparation, professional counseling and mentoring to help them succeed in and outside of the program.

At UrbanPromise Charlotte, 100% of our senior StreetLeaders (68 StreetLeaders in five years) have graduated from high school and received college acceptances! Most are the first in their families to attend college.

NOTE: StreetLeaders are not required to practice Christianity in order to participate in counseling or work at UrbanPromise. StreetLeaders of any race, religion, sex, national origin, or sexuality are welcome.
