UrbanTrekkers Charlotte Officially Launches with First Trek!

Our first official UrbanTrekkers Charlotte expedition took place last weekend, and we are excited to announce that it was a huge success!

An initial cohort of 12 StreetLeader Trekkers have committed to participating in the UrbanTrekkers Program during the 2019-2020 school year, which seeks to complement UrbanPromise’s highly successful academic initiatives with outside expeditionary learning opportunities. In addition to embarking on several multi-day trips together, this cohort will help organize and plan other local trips for their 85+ StreetLeader peers to join throughout the year!

The group’s inaugural Trek was to Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Students experienced an array of outdoor adventure activities while learning to connect with both God and one another through intentional exploration. Our Trekkers completed a zipline course made up of 10 cable runs through the beautiful mountain scenery (including one run that was over 1,400 feet long and suspended 300 feet above the ground!). StreetLeaders also hiked nearly seven miles through Grandfather Mountain State Park, experiencing scenic views of the Appalachian Mountains and gorgeous fall foliage while climbing over 1,000 feet in elevation over the course of the hike. At the end of each day, we led our students through a reflection time and helped them connect their experiences with valuable lessons centered around growing in their faith, trusting in their community and demonstrating courage by overcoming their fears. It was a fantastic experience for them!

Thank you to everyone who has supported the launch of UrbanTrekkers this year! We are excited to see how the students in the cohort will learn and grow as leaders through the experience.
